Winnipeg police will continue being a presence at hockey arenas this season.

The 2015-16 hockey season marks the second year of the Checking In program that sees officers attending games based on random selections as well as addressing specific concerns.

The program, facilitated with the help of Hockey Winnipeg, was implemented following numerous incidents of parents, players and officials behaving badly.

Winnipeg police attended around 40 games last year, covering a wide variety of ages and divisions.

Hockey Winnipeg helps determine where the officers go. If problem arenas or teams develop, they will focus their attendance on those places.

Police said while at the various arenas, officers take time to engage with the public on a number of community concerns.

The St. Vital Minor Hockey Association will host a kick-off event for the program on Saturday.
