Winnipeg police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal collision involving a stolen vehicle.

The two-vehicle crash happened on Feb. 27 near McPhillips Street and Jarvis Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

The drivers of both vehicles, a 71-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, were transported to hospital in critical condition.

The man later died of his injuries. Police are not releasing his name.

A police investigation revealed the woman stole a Honda Civic near Sherbrook Street and Ross Avenue earlier that morning.

Officers said shortly after, the stolen vehicle side-swiped a car while travelling south on McPhillips Street. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

The stolen Honda Civic continued driving south on McPhillips Street where it struck a Buick Regal that was turning off Jarvis Avenue onto McPhillips Street, killing the 71-year-old driver.

Police arrested Summer Skye Patchinose of Winnipeg on Monday.

She faces charges of impaired driving causing death, criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving causing death, vehicle theft and driving while disqualified.

She remains in police custody.
