More details are emerging about the victim of a murder in St. Boniface over the weekend.

Const. Eric Hofley said Thursday that 89-year-old Dorothy Dykens served in the Second World War as a mechanic and then worked as a chemist in Winnipeg.

Const. Hofley said Dykens was single with no children but had family living outside the city.

He said Dykens was known to be a generous person and someone who would be willing to open their door to anybody in need.

“Here we have a woman who’s lived her entire life doing the best that she can, served her country and was approaching her 90th birthday…and unfortunately this is the way it ended up for her,” said Const. Hofley.

A 35-year-old woman faces charges.
