Winnipeg police are on the lookout for a peeping Tom.

A 42-year-old woman says she was shopping at Old Navy in the St. Vital Centre. Police say the woman saw what appeared to be a man with a cell phone filming her, while she was undressed in the change room.

She immediately left the fitting room and called for help. At that time, an unknown male left the adjoining fitting room and fled the store.

Police say security responded immediately and officers came shortly after. “This is a pretty unique incident, this is not something that we see or report on, on any regular basis," said Jason Michalyshen from the Winnipeg Police Service. "The female victim was clearly upset when officers did attend shortly after the incident.”

The incident has other shoppers questioning their privacy in public change rooms.

“It makes you feel a little less safe when you’re out somewhere that you think you should be safe," said Jocelyn Cordeiro, who also said she’ll now think twice when she’s out shopping. “It may make me more likely to take things home and try them on before I make a decision and then return, as opposed to trying on in the store.”

Officers say they're still very early into their investigation. They do have surveillance video, but aren’t releasing any suspect details at this time. So far, investigators don't believe there are other victims.
