A 45-year-old Winnipeg woman is dead and five others were sent to hospital after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 3 late Saturday afternoon, according to RCMP.

RCMP said it happened around 5:30 p.m. just south of Brunkild, Man.

It appears a vehicle travelling southbound went on to the shoulder, overcorrected, and went into oncoming traffic, colliding with a northbound vehicle, RCMP said.

The Mounties said the 43-year-old man who was driving the northbound vehicle was taken to hospital, while his 45-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 17-year-old woman who was driving the southbound vehicle, along with her three female passengers, aged 38, 13, and 11, were all taken to hospital with serious injuries, RCMP said.

Emergency crews, fire crews, and STARS Air Ambulance were all on scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

Brunkild is about 50 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.
