A 47-year-old woman was slapped with two hefty fines after being caught speeding, then again for talking on her phone while driving.

On May 2, around 4 p.m., RCMP said they caught the woman near Elm Creek, about 73 km west of Winnipeg. They said she was going 127 kilometres per hour in a 100 km/h zone.

RCMP said that an unmarked cruiser observed the woman speeding and turned on the sirens to pull her over. While the officer was pulling her over, the woman picked up her phone to make a call.

As a result, RCMP fined the woman $403.25 for speeding and $203.80 for making a call while driving.

Altogether, the woman was fined $607.05.

“When you are in care and control of a motor vehicle that is running, you cannot be distracted, no matter where you are,” said Sgt. Bert Paquet. “Same applies at a red light, and we see that a lot.”
