BRANDON, Man. -- An investigation is underway into the death of a woman who was in RCMP custody in Manitoba.

Mounties say they got a call Nov. 28 about a woman in medical distress in a home in God's Lake Narrows.

Officers took the 31-year-old woman to the nursing station and after being examined, she was put in an RCMP cell under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act.

The next day, she complained of not feeling well and was taken back to the nursing station, then was flown to Winnipeg.

The woman died in Winnipeg on Friday.

The Brandon Police Service will review the RCMP investigation, and a community member has been selected by the God's Lake chief and council to act as an observer.
