Ever wonder what's like living with schizophrenia?

Twenty Winnipeggers are participating in a workshop to better understand the mental illness.

One of the common experiences for people living with the illness is hearing voices.

The workshop, put on by the Manitoba Schizophrenia Society, is giving participants headphones with audio of the voices a person would hear with the illness.

The society said the voices can vary widely. They can be male or female voices. They can happen at different times of the day, or different times of the year.

The workshop requires a participant to perform tasks in a professional setting such as going for an interview and cognitive challenges like doing puzzles and writing.

The workshop is part of National Schizophrenia & Psychosis Awareness Day.

The society says one in 100 Canadians deal with schizophrenia, which is one cause of psychosis. Psychosis includes having hallucinations and/or delusions.
