Overtime costs for policing in Winnipeg are on the rise.

The service’s quarterly report says OT is up by 15.5 per cent or $800,000 compared to last year.

The report attributes the increase to work done by officers in a number of specialty units.

It also says next year’s police budget for overtime could be impacted by the postponement of the fall recruitment class.

The report says that will hamper the ability of the service to support general patrol activities during the Christmas season.

The quarterly update also says the service continues to have trouble attracting and retaining qualified cadets because of wages and the deferral of the recruitment class.
