Health Canada is recalling 32 units of yo-yo balls that were sold at Bazaar & Novelty in Winnipeg.

The organization found that the product doesn’t meet the Canadian safety requirements for toys under Canadian law.

Health Canada said yo-yo balls with cords that can stretch to more than 500 mm (20 in) present a strangulation hazard, because the very stretchy cord can become wrapped tightly around a child's neck, when swung overhead. This tight wrap, coupled with the stickiness of the plastic cord, make it very difficult to remove, which can lead to injury or strangulation of the child.

This recall involves colourful yo-yo balls made of soft stretchy plastic with the image of an octopus body with a finger loop and cord attached. The yo-yo balls are about the size of a tennis ball and are sold in various colours with the item number 16792.

Neither Health Canada nor the Bazaar & Novelty has received any reports of consumer incidents, or injuries related to the use of these products.
