Winnipeg's Exchange District got a new look Friday thanks to 10 pop-up projects.

Workers were busy Friday morning installing a garden, swings, and stars.

It's part of a Creative Placemaking Challenge. Participants submitted their proposals to update alleywaysin the Exchange in June and have to adhere to a tight budget.

Those ideas went up in alleyways around the Exchange for one day only.

"What we wanted to do was to look at the actual physical city and how people interact with that and how the arts can really be a catalyst for developing change," said Dominic Lloye

The art projects draw on alleyway rejuvenation projectsin cities like Melbourne, Seattle and Portland. For more on the project, visit UrbanIdea.ca.
