Dr. Brent Roussin said on Tuesday the Rt Value for Manitoba almost two weeks ago was at 0.6, but now, the province’s level is closer to 1.0
The Rt value, or effective reproductive number, represents the average number of people infected by each case of COVID-19. A number greater than 1 means infection is growing, while a value below 1 means infections are being brought under control.
CTV News has reached out to the province and the Public Health Agency to get the exact Rt value for Manitoba.
The Southern Health Region had the most new cases reported Wednesday, with 41. Winnipeg was second with 29 cases, followed by the Interlake-Eastern Health Region with 20 cases. The Prairie Mountain Health Region had nine new cases, while the Northern Health Region had six new cases.
A spokesperson for the province said of the cases announced on Wednesday, 70 were in people who are not vaccinated, including all 41 cases in the Southern Health Region.
