A 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged following a gun scare at a Winnipeg school Tuesday. A BB gun was also seized, said police.

Elwick Community School in the Maples was put into lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a parent reported seeing students enter the building with a weapon.

Police responded around 1:15 p.m. and located a male suspect at a nearby home. A BB gun was then located and seized, said officers.

No injuries were reported.

The 13-year-old male was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous weapon and failing to comply with a sentence order, said police.
