A 27-year-old suspect faces charges for a shooting that left two men dead on the weekend.

Around 2:40 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the 400 block of Elgin Avenue for reports of shots fired.

Police said it appears the two victims were among a group of people kicked out of a house party in the 300 block of Ross Avenue. A short time later, the victims met up with another man who had also been thrown out of the party.

"The victims in this matter were even trying to prevent the accused from going back to the residence," said Const. Jason Michalyshen, a spokesperson from Winnipeg police.

The suspect pulled out a gun and fired shots at the two victims, said police.

Officers found Darren Joey Swampy, 19, and Lee Brady Spence, 22, suffering from gunshot wounds. They were rushed to hospital in critical condition, but later died.

Swampy was the father of a baby girl who died a few months after she was born.

Court documents show the suspect in the shooting has had previous run-ins with police, including charges for uttering threats, break and enter and assault.

According to the documents, Williams was charged with throwing a woman to the ground and kicking her in the stomach and legs. Her children, a one and two year old, were present during the attack.

On Monday, police said Randy Murray Williams, 27, faces charges for two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the weekend shooting.
