Two young sisters and their father were treated for smoke inhalation following a house fire Sunday night.

Fire officials said the family was able to escape from the blaze before crews arrived.

Firefighters were called to the home on Birchbark Bay, near the West Kildonan industrial park, just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

The fire was contained to a second-floor bedroom.

A dog and a rabbit were also brought out.

Total damage from the fire is pegged at $300,000.

The arson unit and the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating.
