Edmonton police have confirmed they’re looking into the background of Shawn Lamb, 52.

On Monday, Winnipeg police said Lamb faces three second-degree murder charges following the disappearances of women between September 2011 and January 2012.

The murder charges are in connection with the deaths of Tanya Nepinak, 31, Lorna Blacksmith, 18, and Carolyn Sinclair, 25 in Winnipeg.

According to court documents, Lamb has been convicted nearly 100 times of other crimes, ranging from sexual assault to robbery and fraud.

He’s served time in four provinces over the past 30 years.

Because of that, police in Edmonton said they’re now looking to see if Lamb could be connected to any unsolved cases there.

“He committed a number of assaults in that period of time including a sexual assault in and around Slave Lake and he was convicted of that offence and he served time for it,” said Staff Sgt. Gerard MacNeil from Project Kare in Edmonton.

MacNeil said officers will focus on cases between 1989 and 1997, the years during which Lamb lived in Alberta.

In Winnipeg, police also continue to investigate. Officers returned and blocked off access to Lamb’s former apartment on Notre Dame Avenue.

Winnipeg police said they’re working with several different agencies across Canada, but didn’t release details on which ones on Wednesday.
