All hands are on deck this week as soldiers take part in an all-arms training exercise at Canadian Forces Base Shilo.

The seven-day exercise brings together reserve soldiers from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and northern Ontario to learn how to work as a team.

One part of the week is exercise Bison Warrior. The full-scale scenario involves more than 350 soldiers from various military trades.

Members of the artillery unit prepare for battle by firing on the Shilo range. Captain Blake Grimeau from 26 Field Regiment said that once they learn the basics they can do any job.

"We're out here practicing our skills so when it's live we can put bullets on time, on target," said Grimeau.

Military medics practice working in a field tent, with the standard supplies they would have on deployment. Medical staff need to be able to care for soldiers in the field.

"It's important to know, that the sons and daughters they're sending away are actually getting treated properly, they're getting the proper medical treatment," said Corporal Brandi Standing from 17 Field Ambulance.

While the training prepares reservists for battle it also readies troops for when duty calls at home.

"Whether it's a flood or a forest fire, those are the two recent ones we've been tasked to, the military trains to be an organized group," said task force deputy commander Major Bruce Hanbidge.

The exercise continues at CFB Shilo until Friday.
