Over 500 people packed into the RBC Convention Centre Wednesday night to celebrate the YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction Awards.
This year marks the 38th year of the awards ceremony, a tradition that began in Winnipeg, but has now spread across Canada.
Awards were given out in thirteen categories, including the arts, and mentorship. There were 56 nominees.
The chair of the awards, Nancy Chippendale, said the women up for these awards do amazing things.
“They address hunger, they address health and wellness,” said Chippendale. “They're mentors and coaches, and they're in the arts and they're teachers and volunteers."
CTV sponsors the public awareness and communication award.
News anchor Maralee Caruso handed it out to Virgin Radio's Chrissy Troy.
Proceeds from the awards go to programs that support women and youth in the city.
