The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs has elected a new grand chief.

Arlen Dumas was elected at the annual general assembly Wednesday in Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation in Nelson House.

“I am honoured to be so strongly supported by my colleagues along with my community members, family and friends,” Dumas said.

Dumas was born and raised in Pukatawagan, Man. He was previously elected Chief of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation in 2008.

He has also served in various roles with Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak, including as vice-chief.

Dumas said he is committed to working with all communities and their leadership, and will emphasize the need for unity to ensure a promising future for Manitoba First Nations.
