Two-vehicle collision sends both drivers to hospital

Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash in Orillia Saturday afternoon which resulted in one charge and both drivers getting sent to hospital.

According to Orillia OPP, officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision just before 3:45 p.m. at the Highway 12 and Mississaga Street West intersection.

Police say numerous witnesses called in to report the collision and indicate that one of the vehicles was possibly on fire. The area was reportedly closed for more than an hour, with Orillia Fire and Georgian Ambulance also attending the scene.

Police confirm that both drivers were transported to Soldier’s Memorial Hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, and that one driver was charged with a red light – fail to stop offence. The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Orillia OPP also noted that numerous drivers allegedly failed to follow officer directions as first responders were on the scene of the accident.

Motorists are reminded to follow directions given by officers at the scene of an emergency, as failing to do so can delay the response by emergency services and result in charges under the Highway Safety Act.
