Winnipeg fire officials are investigating the cause of a blaze that tore through a Rossmere area home Wednesday night.

Emergency crews rushed to Cameo Crescent around 9:30 p.m. to find smoke pouring out of the one-and-a-half storey home.

Crews were able to extinguish the blaze but not before it caused $500,000 damage to the home.

Fire officials said one person was home when the fire started in the home’s basement. The man was able to make it out safely, and there were no reported injuries in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
