The Public Utilities Board said Thursday it has approved an additional MPI rebate for drivers in Manitoba.

Manitoba Public Insurance previously proposed an additional rebate for customers, following concerns raised after its last round of rebates. In May, MPI distributed cheques to ratepayers for a 45 per cent rebate of vehicle premiums paid in the 2009/2010 insurance year.

Under the second round of rebates, approximately 136,000 customers who previously received some rebate amounts, will receive additional rebates, totaling $11.5 million, said the PUB.

An additional 22,000 customers who did not receive any rebate and who had paid premiums during the March 2009 to February 2010 period will also receive rebates, totaling $4.5 million, said the PUB.

For drivers, the amount of rebates will vary, depending on individual circumstances, said officials.

The PUB said no date has been set for when policy holders will receive rebates, because of the postal disruption.
