Winnipegger Brett Carter, 20, is now a Blue Bomber after the team signed the rookie from the practice roster to a contract.

"I'm very blessed and I'm very thankful for this opportunity the Bombers have given me to play at such a young age," said Carter on Thursday.

Carter has been practicing with the blue and gold since the beginning of training camp this year. He also played in both pre-season games.

The team called on Carter after injuries sidelined a number of players, including star receiver Corey Watson. Watson was injured during practice on Wednesday and Carter was called up from the practice roster to replace him.

"He's a coach's dream. He always shows up on time and he studies hard and knows the offence inside out," said Tim Burke, Bombers head coach.

Carter had joined the Winnipeg Rifles in 2011.

He will dress for Friday night's game against their Toronto Argonauts, sporting Bombers number 80.

Last year, Carter was named one of the top players in the Canadian Junior Football League.
