Winnipeg police confirmed Thursday that an arrest has been made in the fatal stabbing of a 38-year-old woman.

Belinda McKay was found dead in an apartment building on Edmonton Street on March 9.

Her family said her boyfriend of four months was arrested.

Officers said the victim and her common-law partner got into a verbal argument, which escalated into a stabbing.

Police said Lenny John Keam, 27, of Winnipeg has been charged with second-degree murder.

McKay will be buried in Cross Lake Friday.

She was the mother of two young children and moved to Winnipeg for health reasons for her son in the spring of 2011.

McKay's death was the city's sixth homicide of 2012.
