A 28-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition Saturday after a St. Patrick's Day party in the Seven Oaks area turned violent.

Two men started arguing at a party in the 200 block of Semple Avenue Saturday, and then began fighting in the front yard, police said. When one of the men, a 28-year-old, went back into the house, the other man, a 33-year-old, followed him with a knife.

The 33-year-old man then stabbed the 28-year-old in the back before fleeing, police said.

Paramedics rushed the victim to hospital in critical condition. He was eventually upgraded to stable condition, said police.

Officers spotted the suspect fleeing and arrested him near Main Street and Burrin Avenue.

The suspect then spit at one of the officers, police said.

Jason Joseph Moar, 33, is facing multiple charges including aggravated assault and assault of a peace officer. Moar remains in custody at the provincial remand centre.

Winnipeg police said they are continuing to investigate.
