The chief of the Shamattawa First Nation claims an arsonist has targeted the home of an RCMP officer.

Chief Jeffrey Napoakesik tells CTV News that early Wednesday morning someone set fire to the residence of an officer in the Shamattawa detachment.

The chief says the officer made it out safely and was treated for minor smoke inhalation.

There's no word if anyone has been arrested, or how the fire started. There are no damage estimates, either.

According to the RCMP website, the detachment consists of one sergeant and six constables.

About 1,200 people live in Shamattawa, a remote community in the northeast corner of the province on Gods River.
