Manitoba weather: How will we start 2025?
With a new year just hours away, 2024 will come to a mild, but windy end.
As an upper low over the Prairies breaks down and northwest winds pick up in Manitoba, temperatures will fall this afternoon across the province.
The two features will combine to sprinkle a dusting of light snow in many regions, north and south, and in northwestern Ontario.
Here in the south, light snow will be more of the on-again, off-again variety, while many northern regions could see two to four centimetres this afternoon into tonight.
Even though temperatures will drop off slightly this afternoon, they will remain above normal for late December. That said, be prepared for some wind chill in those northwest winds.
If you’re heading out tonight to ring in the New Year, periods of light snow are expected to continue in most areas. The odds are higher in the north, but don’t be surprised by a few flakes falling in the south either.
Despite the mild temperatures, strong and gusting northwest winds will put a wintry bite into the air to ring in 2025.
New Year’s Day on Wednesday will be cloudy with the possibility of more light snow in Winnipeg. Clouds and above-normal temperatures will stick around on Thursday.
Then be prepared for a big drop in temperatures by late in the week. Those northwest winds will deliver the next arctic blast with temperatures falling below normal. The tradeoff under the arctic high, though, will be sunshine.
Happy New Year!
