Firefighters responded to a blaze at a complex on Quail Ridge Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Crews were on scene shortly before 5 p.m.

“It was well advanced upon arrival. They did an exterior attack, defensive attack, to knock the fire down and make it habitable to go inside,” said District Chief Tom Stadnyk.

Stadnyk said no one was injured.

Neighbours watched as flames shot through the roof.

“They were trying to spray water on it but it didn’t seem like it was doing any good. You could see flames through the window and it seemed like it was spreading to the other apartments,” said Tish Davis, who lives nearby.

By about 5:30 p.m., it appeared firefighters had the fire under control.

Stadnyk said two major grassfires in the Centreport Canada Way area meant trucks were close when the flames began.

“Two machines that were coming back from those happened to be on the spot. I think that helped immensely getting the man power to fight the fire,” said Stadnyk.

He said there was significant smoke and water damage to the building.

This isn’t the first time crews have visited this neighbourhood.

In late March, a fire broke out at a first floor deck at 72 Quail Ridge.

The West Country Village Board of Directors posted a notice about that fire that said: “All units were forced to evacuate due to a fire that is believed to be intentionally set.”

An explosion sparked by home renovations tore through several units on nearby Apple Lane last September.

One man was sent to hospital.

The cause of this latest fire is still unknown, and there are no damage estimates.
