Cops lay charges against two teens in West Broadway stabbing
Winnipeg police have arrested and charged two teens in connection with a stabbing and robbery in West Broadway on Friday morning.
Officers were called to Broadway Avenue and Langside Street around 5:00 a.m. where they found a 29-year-old man and 23-year-old woman had been stabbed.
The pair were walking in the area when they were confronted by a 15-year-old and 18-year-old. Officers said the teens concealed their identities and demanded the victims to hand over their property. When the man and woman refused, a fight broke out, police said.
The male victim was able to overpower the 18-year-old male, but the 15-year-old suspect produced a knife, said police. The teen struck the woman and then stabbed the man.
The two teens then fled the scene, leaving the male victim in the road, police said.
Passing motorists called the police, and the man was transported to hospital in critical condition. The female victim was treated at the scene, said police. The man is now in stable condition.
The Winnipeg police canine unit led officers to an apartment building on Young Street, where they found both suspects. The 18-year-old suspect was transported to hospital in critical condition after sustaining injuries during the altercation with his victims, police said.
A 15-year-old youth and an 18-year-old man are both facing two counts of robbery with a weapon, disguise with intent as well as failing to comply with their respective court orders. Both teens are in police custody.
Const. Natalie Aitken said the pair both have, "extensive police involvement.”
