The chief of the Cross Lake First Nation has been charged with obstruction of justice following a hit-and-run on his reserve.

The incident happened more than two months ago.

A 33-year-old woman was hit by a van in the early morning hours of Sept.12.

RCMP say she suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local nursing station.

After almost two months of investigation RCMP arrested 36-year-old Karen Gail Muskego of Cross Lake. She faces a litany of charges including failure to stop at the scene of an accident, obstruction of justice, and assault.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Chief Alex James Robinson and Raymond Robinson both of Cross Lake. They are both charged with obstruction of justice.

Officers say that during their investigation they were lied to about who was driving the van at the time of the hit-and-run.

Alex and Raymond Robinson were released on a promise to appear. Their court date is set for Nov.26 in Cross Lake.

Karen Muskego has been remanded until her court date on Dec. 15.
