Whether their work is on stage or in a gallery, there is a distance between artist and audience.

This weekend artists across Manitoba will try to close the gap by giving you a glimpse behind the scenes of their work during the fifth annual Culture Days.

For three days the public is invited to free, hands-on activities and lessons for things like landscape dancing.

Culture Days Manitoba co-chair Jean Giguère said people are often surprised to learn what the life of an artist is really like.

“I think that they thought dancers dance every Tuesday and Thursdays and opera singers sing once a week to keep in shape," said Giguère. "They have no idea that it's a long, everyday, nine to six event.”

Manitoba will have 340 free activities hosted all over the province, from Altona to Gimli to Winnipeg and beyond.

Culture Days take place across Canada September 26 to the 28.
