A Winnipeg man faces impaired driving charges after leaving a “wake of destruction” across the North End and Weston neighbourhoods on Saturday, police said.

The chain of events started when a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck drove through a railway crossing arm and light standard near McPhillips Street and Selkirk Avenue, and ended when the truck crashed into a house in the 1200 block of Logan Avenue around 10:15 p.m., police said.

In between, the driver struck several other cars and injured three people, police said. After driving through the rail crossing, the truck headed south on McPhillips, hitting a Toyota Rav 4, injuring the 47-year-old driver, who was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect kept driving south, swerving across lanes and hitting a yield sign, police said. Just before Logan, the suspect crossed the median into northbound traffic and hit a Cadillac before heading west on Logan.

The suspect kept swerving across lanes, hitting a taxi that was driving east, and continued driving west.

A 36-year-old woman driving a Pontiac Montana saw the truck driving erratically and slowed down to try to avoid a collision. The suspect however, swerved into her lane and hit her van. She was taken to hospital to with non-life threating injuries.

After hitting the van, the truck drove up over the boulevard, through a fence and came to a rest against a house. The suspect tried to escape by reversing but the truck got stuck in a snow bank.

Officers found the suspect still trying to escape and took him into custody. Paramedics took him to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Kenneth Francis Villeneuve, 60, faces three counts of driving while impaired causing bodily harm, dangerous driving, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He was detained at the Remand Centre.
