9 charges laid, 11 firearms seized in Wetaskiwin shelter-in-place incident

Charges have been laid against a man who prompted a shelter-in-place order in Wetaskiwin.

On Monday night, RCMP said they were called to an assault at a rural property on Township Road 411. When officers entered the home, they were shot at by the suspected attacker.

A shelter-in-place was ordered in the area while police attempted to de-escalate the situation, RCMP said, and the 34-year-old man surrendered and was arrested several hours later.

More than 10 guns and multiple boxes of ammunition were recovered during the incident.

No officers were hurt in the incident.
