The clouds of steam rising across Winnipeg signal that cold temperatures have returned to the city.  

Environment Canada issued extreme cold warning sfor most of the province on Saturday. A high pressure ridge moving into the province from the arctic is bringing a large mass of cold air, which will drag temperatures down.

Drivers might want to start plugging in their cars overnight, as the lows over the next couple of days fall to the low -30s C. Winds between 15 and 20 km/h will creat extreme wind chills that feel -21 C feel like -40 C.

Environment Canada issues extreme cold warnings when temperatures or wind chills pose risks health risks like frost bite or hypothermia.

Along with the deep cold come bright skies. Environment Canada predicts clear skies every day for the next week. By mid-week, the overnight lows will be in the low-20s C for a couple of days before falling back down to the low -30s.
