Winnipeg police are warning people about an email scam involving fake traffic violation tickets.
The emails falsely claim the recipient has been identified as a negligent driver and must pay a fine.
WPS said they have nothing to do with the emails, and people should be cautious if they receive an email like this.
Const. Jason Michalyshen said the subject line of the emails frequently misspells “infringement”.
The notice includes phone numbers and an amount due, as well a date of the alleged offence, but nowhere on the notice does it identify WPS.
Michalyshen said the WPS wants to hear from anyone who might have been victimized. He also directs people looking for more information to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre website.
