The three people accused in the killed of Ivan Radocaj in 2007 have all been found guilty.
Ivan's estranged wife Melody Sanford, her friend and the friend's son have all been found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury Thursday night. Ivan, a former wrestler, was found dead in his Inwood home in 2007. The killing was orchestrated by Sanford in a murder-for-hire plot.
Because of the guilty verdicts, Ivan's family is now resting a little easier.
"I think it was pretty good. Justice was done, justice was served," said Josip Radocaj, Ivan's father.
"It wasn't worth killing him for. Take your half, go away and that's it," said Darlene Radocaj, the victim's mother.
Darlene and Josip believe greed fuelled the killing. A protection order filed by Ivan was kept from the jury. It claims Sanford only became interested in Ivan after he received a $49,000 Manitoba Public Insurance settlement.
It describes how he feared for his life, a concern he shared with his parents.
Josip said his son expressed concerns over his safety, " I said, ‘Why?' He said, ‘Well, Melody phoned me and said she can snap her fingers and have me killed.'"
All three accused were given life sentences with no chance of parole for 25 years on Oct. 13.
"We don't have Ivan but we have Ivan in our hearts. He will always be in my heart, always," said Darlene.
Sanford and her two co-accused were also found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder.
