A 41-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle collision near Portage la Prairie. Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash, said officers.

RCMP and emergency crews were called around 9 p.m. on June 7 to a crash at an intersection on the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 16, west of Portage la Prairie.

Witnesses reported seeing a Volkswagen Jetta that failed to stop at a red light and was hit on the driver's side by a Buick Allure, said RCMP.

The Allure had the right of the way at the time with a green light, said officers.

The driver of the Jetta, a 41-year-old woman from Portage, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 48-year-old passenger in the same vehicle was taken to hospital with serious conditions.

The driver of the Allure was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP continue to investigate the crash.
