Firefighters were at the scene of a fire in the northwestern part of Winnipeg for hours Saturday afternoon.

At 3:30 p.m. fire services were dispatched to a grassfire in a wooded area near Woodgreen Place.

Fire services remained on scene after 6 p.m.

Residents in the area said people were having a party, and a bonfire may have gotten out of control.

"My daughter called and said, ‘Run home -- the back of the house is on fire!' so I came around and I saw that 10 to 12 firefighters were working in the back," said a woman who lived in the area.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
