MOOSOMIN, Sask. - Poor visibility caused by a large grass fire on Wednesday forced police to partially close the Trans-Canada Highway in eastern Saskatchewan.

The province's Highway Hotline says a train sparked the fire along the south side of the highway between Moosomin and the Manitoba boundary.

Members of the Moosomin fire department fought the flames late into the day before one lane eastbound from Moosomin was reopened.

Police say a number of structures in the area were destroyed.

They also say some areas of the fire were under control, but crews were continuing to check for hot spots.
