Local brewery Half Pints kicked off this year's release of its popular Queer Beer Saturday.

The product, which is a joint venture from Pride Winnipeg and Half Pints, was sold last year and is back for another season.

Half Pints hosted a tasting and brewery tour from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to celebrate it's return.

Members of the public were invited to sample the beer and listen to toasts from Half Pints and Pride Winnipeg as well as take in a tour.

The brew will be sold at four Manitoba liquor marts in the city as well as bars Gio's, Fame and Club 200 starting Tuesday.

The product will be in stores until it sells out, Barb Burkowski of Pride Winnipeg said.

"Last year it flew off the shelves a lot faster than we expected it," Burkowski said. "I think we're a little more prepared this year."

The special brew has a slightly fruity aroma derived from zythos hops and is brewed in the style of a German pilsner.

Half Pints is sponsoring this year's Pride Festival and will be serving Queer Beer at this year's Gay Pride Parade on June 3.

A portion of the proceeds raised from the beer will be donated to Pride Winnipeg.
