Perennial 80's rock band Harlequin has hit a sour note after someone stole roughly $50,000 worth of guitars, equipment, and memories from the home-studio of keyboardist, Darren Moore.

"I had instruments that I had been collecting since I was a kid," he said.

Harlequin has been together since 1979. Moore has accumulated many items, and fears much of what was lost can never be replaced.

Two weeks ago Moore's teen aged daughter had a party while he was away. Moore said a get-together with a few friends turned into more than 80 people, including some strangers. Police had to break the party up. But someone came back to the home and broke in through the patio doors on April 5th, and cleared the place out.

Six guitars, stereos and a computer holding decades worth of songs and ideas are now gone.

They even took a back-up hard drive hidden in a closet.

"As a musician, I mean, there are certain things like the songs that we had written that you can never retrieve," said Moore. "I mean you hope it's in your memory but..."

Winnipeg police have been visiting local pawn shops and music stores -- telling them to be on the lookout for the stolen goods.

Moore made a plea to the thieves on CTV News at Six on April 22.

"If you can bring them back to me or leave them in my yard in a box, or send them to the Crime Stoppers, it would be greatly appreciated," he said.

As for Moore's daughter... "Well, she's hiding from me," said Moore. "She's been hiding from me for a week. She's pretty upset she feels really bad."

The band was working on its first ever live CD... and the live recordings were stolen, so the CD release now has to be delayed.

Harlequin is a staple of Canadian rock -- with a hit album in 1982 that produced hits like 'I Did it for Love', 'Superstitious Feeling', and 'Heart Gone Cold'.

According to the band's website, the band's old and new hits still receive remarkable amounts of airplay and still tours.

The bands current line-up consists of George Belanger, Nik Rivers, Derrick Gottfried, Darren Moore and AJ Cahbidon.

If you have any information about the robbery call police at 986-2877 or Crime Stoppers, 786-TIPS.
