Winnipeg police said concerns about a controlled substance raised during a medical call have caused a police presence at a home in the St. John’s area.

According to officials, members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the medical call Tuesday at around 5:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Aikins Street.

Police couldn’t give specifics on the medical call, but said there was concerns about an overlay regarding a controlled substance.

“We’re erring on the side of caution,” Const. Rob Carver said.

Police remained on scene through Wednesday afternoon, and members of the Hazmat team could be seen going in an out of the home. No word yet on the reason for their lengthy presence in the area.
