A high-risk sex offender previously convicted for sexually assaulting a teenage girl is set to live in Winnipeg after his sentence expires.

Winnipeg police said Fabian Claybren Maytwayashing, 41, will be released from the Headingley Correctional Institution Thursday. He was serving time for three counts of failing to comply with probation and failing to comply with recognizance.

Police said Maytwayashing has a long criminal record involving convictions for sexual assault with a weapon, uttering threats, assault, cruelty to animals and harassing phone calls. Although he has had some treatment, he’s considered a high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner. Police said females of all ages are at risk.

Maytwayashing was previously convicted in March of 2001 of assaulting a 14-year-old girl with a weapon. Police said he grabbed her as she was walking home, dragged her into a yard, held a knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her. He was sentenced to five years in prison.

Officials said Maytwayashing often uses social media to contact women who could be potential victims. He’s also known to use aliases like James Hildenbrand, Stephane Masters, Fabian Sennie and Fabian Choken.

Maytwayashing will be on probation for three years after his release. He’s expected to live in Winnipeg. His probation order forbids him from consuming or possessing drugs or alcohol, having any contact with girls under the age of 18-years-old unless supervised and possessing weapons. He must abide by a curfew at an approved home.

Police said the public should take suitable measures to protect themselves, but warn any vigilante activity or unsuitable conduct towards Maytwayashing won’t be tolerated.

Anyone with information about Maytwayashing should call the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit at 204-984-1888 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
