A Manitoba Hutterite colony is suing farm owners over the deaths of hundreds of hogs in June.

Plainview Colony Farms is suing farm owners Martin and Dolores Grenier.

The farm owners in Notre Dame de Lourdes also face more than 20 charges under the province's Animal Care Act after hundreds of hogs were found dead and others had to be put down in June.

The lawsuit claims the Greniers were raising the hogs on the colony's behalf, but failed to provide adequate medical attention or proper feeding for the animals.

The colony is asking for compensation for fair market value for more than 2,000 hogs.
