Impaired driving charge laid in crash that killed 63-year-old man

RCMP said a 44-year-old man is facing charges for a fatal crash last week.

Around 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 21, police and emergency crews were called to a head-on collision involving two pickup trucks on Highway 10, about 15 kilometres north of The Pas.

The driver of one of the trucks, a 63-year-old man from Shoal River First Nation, died at the scene, said RCMP. Police did not release his name.

The driver of the other truck was sent to hospital in stable condition.

RCMP said Dec. 27 that John Anthony Ducharme, 44, of Opaskwayak Cree Nation has been charged with impaired driving causing death, and driving while prohibited.

Further charges are expected.
