A female pedestrian has died after she was struck by a car Thursday morning.

Police were called to the collision at around 11:40 a.m. in the 200 block of Marion Street.

Police said a woman was near a truck parked on the street when she was hit by another vehicle.

According to Winnipeg Police Service Const. Rob Carver, there’s little information as to what led to the collision.

“I don’t know any details about why she was there,” Carver said.

“She may have been getting into her truck. It may very well have been that she was just going about her day as any of us would.”

The vehicle that hit the woman left the scene.

Carver said the vehicle is suspected to be involved in a crime before the crash, but couldn’t give details on that incident.

“The vehicle that left the scene is probably connected to an incident that happened earlier,” Carver said.

Johnny Yang owns Tattoo Noir, a tattoo shop on Marion Street. He said one of his clients came across the scene on her way into an appointment at his business.

“She came in and she was pretty startled. Actually, she didn’t end up finishing her tattoo because she was just so worked up over it.”

Yang said it’s tragic that such a thing would happen in the area.

Nicole Leclerc lives in the area and told CTV News she was shocked by what had happened.

“This neighbourhood is pretty safe for the most part; people aren’t driving that fast.” Leclerc said.

“It’s more older people and families that are living in this area.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Marion between Traverse and Braemar avenues s closed. The public is asked to avoid the area.

Carver said there is no threat to the public's safety.
