While the Winnipeg Jets took on the Calgary Flames Friday night inside the MTS Centre, dozens of fans gathered outside to watch the home opener in a unique way.

About 150 people gathered in Old Market Square to catch the action on a 15 foot screen at the Cube Stage.

Fans in Jets gear bundled up, brought lawn chairs and warmed up around a bonfire prior to the game.

The live screening was an effort organized by the Exchange District Biz, Red River College, Bodegoes and King + Bannatyne restaurants.

Local restaurants offered food and drink specials for the event.

Organizers also provided popcorn for sale and 50/50 tickets to support KidSport Winnipeg.

“We are proud to work with local businesses to create a "True North" experience in The Exchange,” said Brian Timmerman, Executive Director of the Exchange BIZ. “We want to share with Winnipeg, that even in the fall and winter months, there are still many great reasons to visit the Exchange.”
