The Winnipeg band playing at a church concert, where dozens of teens were injured as the venue's floor collapsed, is asking its fans to pray for the injured.

On its website, the Christian rock band Starfield said it was "consumed with concern" for the people who were hospitalized after the show in Abbotsford, especially for the three people who suffered serious injuries.

"There was a serious accident at our concert...and many young people were injured," the band wrote.

"At this moment, we are consumed with concern and compassion for those who were injured, especially for those who were described to be in serious condition. Our hearts are with them. We ask that you join us in prayer for them," the band said.

About 1,000 young people were jumping to Starfield's music on Friday night at Central Heights Church in Abbotsford when a large section of the floor suddenly collapsed into the basement below. A large lighting and sound system also crashed on top of them.

In all, about 40 people were injured, three seriously -- one with a serious head and neck injury, another with a compound fracture of the hand, and another with a fractured leg.

Cause of crash still unknown

Authorities aren't speculating about what caused the collapse, though police say investigators will likely enlist the help of an engineer to help sort out what happened.

Pastor Chris Douglas told CTV News on Saturday that the church was built in the mid-1980s and was not full at the time.

"That building that facility is rated for 1200, 1300 people and it was not to capacity at the time," he said.

Fan Connor Madden said Starfield lead singer Tim Neufeld told the crowd to stop jumping just before the floor fell.

"The main singer of the band, I don't know if he saw it happening or something, maybe he saw the thing swinging down and about to fall on the people, but he told them to stop jumping," he said.

Many said it was a miracle that no one was killed.

Fans show support on Facebook

On Starfield's Facebook page, fans posted notes of support and shock.

"Wow my prayers are with everyone who was hurt on Friday," wrote Jessica Fowler. "I am shocked at what happened!"

Walter Gorlitz posted that he saw a woman in the hole that the floor had made.

"I have been praying since I saw her and was unable to get down to her," Gorlitz wrote.
