Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane has made a viral splash on social media thanks to picture with stacks of cash.

On Monday evening, the 23-year-old posted a picture to Instagram showing himself performing a push up with stacks of hundred-dollar bills on his back.

“You want to be in good shape so I thought, why not do some push ups while you’re having fun,” said Kane about the picture which he says was taken in Las Vegas.

Kane has just nine points in 17 games so far this season.

“It just goes to show how much the Jets players make,” said hockey fan David Fehr outside MTS Centre on Tuesday. “I think if you make a whole bunch of money it’s not cool to be flashy. It makes you a target to society because people want more of you.”

Kane shrugged off criticism of his performance on the ice in relation to the picture.

“It has nothing to do with my performance or anything else,” he said after a Jets practice.

Kane gained notoriety three years ago for another picture from Las Vegas of himself holding a large stack of money to his ear like a phone.

“It’s not the first picture that’s been posted like that and I’m sure it won’t be the last,” said Kane.

Not all the reaction was negative.

“I thought it was wicked. If I had that kind of money I would love to just do push ups with money.” said Grant Hiorse.

Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice says he is not bothered by the social media antics.
