Hundreds of thousands smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are being recalled in Canada and the U.S.

Officials say 112,000 Kidde smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in Canada are affected.

Kidde said they can fail to alert consumers of a fire or a carbon monoxide incident following a power outage.

The residential alarms are hard-wired into a home's electric power.

The recall involves three different AC/DC powered residential smoke alarms and combination smoke/CO alarms models sold between January and May 2014: KN-COSM-IBACA, i12010S-CO-CA and i12010S-CA

These alarms are white and round with “Kidde” engraved on the front. Labels indicating the model number and date are on the back of the device.

Kiddie says neither they nor Health Canada have received reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of the alarms. The issue was discovered during an internal quality check.

Kidde Canada is issuing free replacements for the alarms. Consumers can call toll free at 1-888-784-2323 for their replacement. Visit the Healthy Canadians website for more information.
